Dix Vorster provided top class music entertainment in the evening at the Pont.

On Sunday, 14th June the main 45km event started at 09h00 with the 25km going out at 09h30. The 10km riders were loaded onto the Nuform trucks and taken up the steep Pont Rd to give them a boost for the rest of the course.
This year’s number of entries doubled from last year’s entries, showing that the event is growing in popularity each year. Community guides were employed to take the Guided Nature Walk in the Nature Reserve which provided a wonderful alternative activity while the race took place.

A raffle was held to raise further funds with a R7000 Mongoose Mountain Bike up for grabs. Derek Walton who says he has never won anything in his life walked away with the bike! Lucky Draw Prizes were kindly donated by a variety of local businesses. Oribi Gorge Hotel donated a voucher valued R3,300.00

The race would not be possible without the generosity of the sponsors,
volunteers and landowners and for that the Bundubashers Club is truly appreciative.

The proceeds will go to the following non-profit organizations:

H.E.L.P. Foundation (Port Edward) is committed to feeding and assisting the poor, hungry and homeless irrespective creed and religion within the Port Edward area and surrounds. At present they feed 100 children in Nzimakwe daily and provide food parcels to homes with children that are head of the house. In addition they offer on going counselling; relocation of the homeless; rehabilitation support and securing medical care.

Crags View Wild Care Centre situated on Crag’s View farm, Port Edward, is the only official wildlife rehabilitation centre serving the lower south coast region, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The core function of the Centre is to attempt to rehabilitate and release as many animals and birds as possible that have sustained injuries and stress due to mainly human influence.  Patients include antelope, from the protected blue duiker to bush buck, as well as a variety of birds and small mammals indigenous to our area. “Our current and most pressing goals are two-fold: to establish and education/information centre, concentrating particularly on increasing awareness in our future generations.  The second is to build improved and appropriate care areas for animals and birds in an attempt to simulate their natural environments.”

Contributions will be made to the Umtamvuna Conservancy – towards their work within the Red Desert area and to the eKZN Wildlife Umtamvuna Nature Reserve to go towards their conservation projects within the Reserve.

The event is coordinated by a voluntary committee under the auspices of the Bundubashers MTB Club.
The Old Pont Resort provided a superb Start/Finish venue with excellent facilities.
A variety of food and beverage outlets were provided to keep the competitors and spectators well watered and fed.
Kids were entertained throughout the day by the jumping castle, performing clown and secure playground.
Competitors were treated to complimentary leg massages by a local therapy spa.

The event was filmed and will be broadcasted on SuperSport Channels at the end of July
(dates will be announced closer to the time)
