Helene Bruce-Webster Artist profile

After a long journey along various unexpected routes, things have finally come full circle for Helene Bruce-Webster and has now returned to a creative lifestyle that she loves and enjoys to the full. Born in the Gauteng area. At the age of 18 she moved to England where she spent five years living in London and Oxford where she did various academic courses.

Circumstances forced Helene to leave home in Johannesburg and she moved to Natal South Coast with her two young children. Faced with the challenge of making a new life for herself and her children, she drew on her creative ability and set out as a designer. In addition she also taught at the Port Shepstone Technical Institute.

In 1979 Helene started to work at San Lameer Development and Resort - spent the next 18 years as part of the Marketing Team for the resort as well as becoming part of the international marketing team for the Protea Group of Hotels. During this time she successfully completed a course in Hotel Management at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town. In 1983, Helene was appointed the General Manager of San Lameer Protea Hotel - the first woman to be appointed to this level within the Protea Group.

In 1992, after her children became self sufficient, Helene decided to return to her first love and took the brave step to set up as a full time artist. During the later part of the eighties she took various courses with different artists including Henri Wood who was a great help with flower studies, including Irises, poppies, tulips and hibiscuses.

A gallery near Interlaken (Switzerland) displays her "Alpine Floral Studies", while her daughter who lives in Birmingham (UK) promotes private commissions in England.

Helene Bruce-Webster, an international artist, painting all mediums, including  abstract. She exhibits and works from her beautiful garden art studio and gallery. Helene demonstrates painting techniques and gives classes. Groups are welcome.
